Engineering Manager - Vehicles

Reports to: Director of Engineering - Vehicles

Purpose of the Job:

As a member of the Vehicles Product Development team, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for the development of new vehicles, vehicle systems and support of existing vehicles that are, or will become, part of the vibrator product line. The manager will work closely with the Director of Engineering to determine project and support priorities while establishing requirements and responsibilities.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

• Coordinate with key stakeholders such as Engineering, Field Service, Repair, Marketing , Sales and Customers to gather input on the product line.

• Manages a team of engineering professionals responsible for design, development, and test of all aspects of hydraulic, vibrator systems, chassis and other vehicle systems present on a vibrator.

• Write and implement engineering processes and procedures.

• Perform and manage hydraulic system simulations including all aspects of the system.

• Perform and manage structural analysis of systems found on a seismic vibrator.

• Direct 3rd party engineering teams to perform tasks assigned to them.

• Participate in specialist and multidisciplinary team meetings.

• Develop new ideas and design concepts in a team environment.

• Test design concepts utilizing simulation tools or physical demonstrators.

• Make presentations to senior design management or clients, either when bidding for a contract or to present design proposals

• Complete Documentation including, but not limited to, Engineering Change Notices, Deviations Waivers, NPR’s

• Meet with internal client and external clients to review concepts, performance, feasibility and adherence to requirements.

• Provide field support and manage writing of field service bulletins

• Produce detailed specifications using Inventor to produce specifications, including BOMs.

• Lead and participate in design reviews.

• Support activities at production facilities and vendors including travel, as required.

• Work in accordance with all legislation and company policy requirements pertaining to employee safety, health and wellness

Education and Experience requirements

• ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

• Minimum of 10 years of work experience in Engineering

• Minimum of 2 years of management experience

• 3 years of experience with mobile hydraulic system design and development (preferred)

• 3 years of experience with vehicle design and development (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong mechanical aptitude

• Ability to use ingenuity and innovation to solve complex problems

• Understanding of successful product commercialization

• Demonstrated leadership in managing a multi-faceted team

• Ability to be results driven while effectively leading both direct and indirect reports

• Proficient in using 3-D modeling tools (AutoCAD Inventor preferred)

• Proficient in utilizing FEA to validate designs.

• Proficient in the design and development of heavy-duty vehicle systems (preferred).

• Proficient in the design of hydraulic systems. (preferred).

• Proficient in the use of hydraulic simulation tools such as Amesim (preferred).

• Demonstrates professional communication, problem solving and self-management skills

• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills

• Able to effectively interact with vendors, customers and other Inova personnel.

• Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written

Work Environment:

• Work is primarily in an indoor, well lit office or warehouse environment

• Some work to be completed in the manufacturing area; with some requirement for Personal Protective Equipment

• Some testing will be conducted at an external test facility.

• Limited travel to field locations for testing and evaluation of designs
